Jackie credits STEP with giving her the self-confidence to apply to Smith College. “I not only became more confident, I became comfortable with myself and putting myself out there.” When it was time to leave for college, Jackie felt ready to step out of her comfort zone. Moving to Massachusetts was “a big change from Arizona”; however, “going on expedition to Alaska helped me get used to a new environment and new people, and taught me how to communicate.” In the classroom, Jackie says STEP prepared her for the rigor of college work.
Jackie is currently majoring in engineering. She has always known she wanted to major in engineering, but “STEP helped me figure out which schools with engineering programs I should apply to.”
