STEP Graduates - Class of 2021

Congratulations to the STEP Class of 2021!

This class faced unprecedented challenges, including a global pandemic that disrupted the second half of their high school career. STEP students persevered through these challenges, navigating transitions from in-person to online learning and back again. They participated in virtual workshops and fly-in programs, found new ways to get involved in their communities, and maintained energy and hope in the midst of uncertainty.

Recently, STEP held a virtual celebration for our graduates and their families. One highlight of this ceremony was a video celebrating the many accomplishments of the class of 2021. You can view the video here:

These results are just one indicator of the hard work STEP students have engaged in throughout high school. Senior Maleka Abdi summed up the determination of her class in a speech to her fellow graduates:

We are often told that postsecondary education is not meant for us. We are discouraged, challenged, and tried. But every year, STEPpers defy the odds and become first-generation college students. We continue to prove to the world that education is not meant for one kind of person. It is meant for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort, no matter their race, socioeconomic background, or immigration status. And when there seems to be no way, we make a way.

Congratulations, STEP graduates – we know you will continue to thrive and to inspire, no matter where you go next.
